Fourth of July

"Celebrate" Banner

Celebrate banner using scrapbook paper, ribbon, and hot glue.  I made this last year to put on the mantle. If I had known I would be blogging about it now, I would have kept track of how I made it and which products I used. As I get the hang of the blogging thing you will get better descriptions. This banner was started during one of my "craft nights with the girls" via my friend Jenny.

4th of July Holiday Bottle

One of the first sets of holiday bottles I created to match the banner I made last year. I went back to my local craft store and looked for paper I used to create my banner last year and had to improvise a little. A few adjustments were made to the banner so it appears to be coordinated.

First attempt with Mixed Media.

Last year my friend Nancy started creating some mixed media pieces and I thought they were fantastic. Never thought I would make my own. It seemed like a lot of work. Then my son took a class with his former teacher from 1st grade, Mrs. Mattingly (she's awesome!). As he participated in the class I was totally smitten with his focus and creativeness as I watched him work on it. It was a total "mommy moment", I asked him to show me how he made it.

He was very interested in explaining it to me.  Our idea was to create two 4th of July pieces to complement the banner and bottles I had already created. We mailed the one he made in art class to his grandma in Texas, which she loved!

Luckily I had a lot of materials and supplies we could use. This is what we ended up creating together.
